Brooke VanHouweling 11th at State XC Meet

Brooke VanHouweling wrapped up her high school cross country career with an 11th place finish at the 3A state xc meet in Ft. Dodge.  She ran a personal best time of 15:08.  Brooke ran a great race and came across the finish line in a tight group of girls where 8th and 11th were separated by inches.  "Brooke has had an outstanding season and career and we are very proud of her efforts this season."


VanHouweling Qualifies for State XC Meet

Brooke VanHouweling ran to a 3rd place finish at the 3A State Qualifying Meet held at Knoxville, thereby punching her ticket to the State Cross Country Meet next week-end.  VanHouweling ran a 15:47 over the 4k distance.  The team finished 6th with 192 points in the 14-team field. "Brooke has had a great season and it is a great reward for her to be able to finish with another trip to the state meet.  I am so happy for her."

Skylar DeJong was the top finisher for the boys team, running an 18:02 over the 5k race distance to finish in 33rd place.  As a team, the boys finished 11th with 279 points in the 13-team field.  "We are a very young team and they ran pretty well tonight.  Hopefully this will be a building block for next season."

Indians Compete at West Marshall **updated**

The Oskaloosa harriers tuned up for the state qualifier meet by running at the West Marshall Trojan Invitational.  The girls won all three individual titles with Brooke VanHouweling taking the varsity race in a time of 15:16, Gabi Boxler taking the JV race in a time of 17:50 and Sienna DeJong taking the middle school title in a time of 12:52.  "Our girls had a fantastic night of running.  They ran aggressively and raced hard.  I was very pleased with the outcomes.  We had some great individual performances and I think we are reaching our peak shape just in time."  The girls varsity won the team title with 34 points.  The boys also ran well.  Spencer DeJong was the top finisher with a 4th place finish in a time of 17:57, while Logan Ashman led the JV boys with a 6th place finish in a time of 20:00 and Brady DeJong was the top middle school boy with a 4th place finish in a time of 13:11.  "The boys were a little up and down.  I hope we are ready for the state qualifier meet next week."

Girls 3rd, Boys 5th at Little Hawkeye Conference Meet

The Oskaloosa cross country teams competed at the conference cross country meet held at Norwalk.  The Oskaloosa girls tallied 84 points to finish third behind Pella and Grinnell, while the boys scored 124 to finish in 5th place.  Brooke VanHouweling and Paige Walter each earned all conference recognition by finishing in the top 15 at the meet.  VanHouweling ran 15:48 to finish 3rd, while Walter finished in 17:21 earning a 14th place finish.  Skylar and Spencer DeJong led the way for the boys team with each earning all-conference honors.  Skylar finished in 5th place running a time of 17:00, while Spencer finished 15th with a time of 17:43.  Alina Nettesheim was the top JV girls finishing 24th with a time of 10:02, while Kamron VanHulzen led the JV boys with a 33rd place finish in a time of 19:50.  Sienna DeJong finished 2nd for the middle school girls, while Brady DeJong was 6th for the boys.

VanHouweling Wins Centerville Invitational

Brooke Vanhouweling ran 16:35 to win the Centerville Invitational on Tuesday, leading her team to a 7th place finish with 162 points.  Skylar DeJong ran to a 2nd place finish in the boys race running a time of 16:49.  The Osky boys also finished 7th with 188 points.  The weather was a little warmer with temps in the 80s.  Gabi Boxler lead the girls JV team finishing 10th in 19:40, while Logan Ashman was the top JV boy with a time of 20:09, good for 12th place.  Brady DeJong led the middle school boys with a 5th place and Bailey Blythe was the top middle school girl with a 3rd place finish.

Cross Country Teams Run Well at Knoxville

 Brooke VanHouweling and Skylar DeJong led their respective teams to strong performances at the Knoxville Invitational on Tuesday.  VanHouweling continued to be a force with her 2nd place finish, leading her team to a 4th place finish in the 10-team field.  Her time over the 4k course was 16:05.  Skylar DeJong finished 6th, helping his team to also finish in 6th in the 10-team field running 16:51 over the 5k course.  Good weather helped the runners to tackle the challenging course at Pine Knolls Country Club.  Kamron VanHulzen was the top JV finisher, while Gabi Boxler led the JV girls.  Middle school runners were led by Brady DeJong and Sienna DeJong.

 Osky Harriers Sweep Eddyville Invitational

The Oskaloosa cross country teams won both the girls and boys team titles at the Eddyville-Blakesburg Invitational.  Brooke VanHouweling led the way, running away with the individual title in a time of 15:38.  Four other Osky runners finished in the top 10: Paige Walter(4), Lesley Roquet(6), Kelsey Roquet(9) and Meghan Toubekis(10).  All 14 girls ran season-best times.  Skylar DeJong led four boys to top 10 finishes as he ran 16:01 to finish in 2nd place.  Spencer DeJong was 3rd, Jared Boggess was 8th and Alex Hyland was 9th.  All 13 boys ran season-best times.  The weather and course were conducive to great times tonight and I thought our kids really took advantage of that and ran really well.  This was an important step as we begin to focus on the upcoming championship meets.  Brady DeJong and Sienna DeJong led the middle school runners in the combined middle school race with Brady finishing in 1st and Sienna in 2nd.  The middle school kids ran their longest race of the season at 1.75 miles.

Indians Run Well at Own Invitational

The Oskaloosa cross country teams hosted their home Invitational on September 13th with the boys finishing 6th of 12 teams and the girls 4th of 10 teams.  Brooke VanHouweling led the way with a 2nd place finish with a time of 16:42.  Skylar DeJong led the boys team with a 3rd place finish with a time of 17:30.  Both teams continued to show improvement as they run through the early part of the season.  The times were a little slower in comparison to the Grinnell meet, but this race was contested on a significantly more challenging course. Sienna DeJong was again the top middle school girl finishing in 2nd place, covering the 1.5 mile course in 10:33, while Brady DeJong was the top middle school boy finishing in 3rd with a time fo 10:30.  Individual finishers for the Indians were as follows:

DeJong & VanHouweling Lead Indians

Skylar DeJong and Brooke VanHouweling both secured 5th place finishes as the Indians competed at the Grinnell Invitational.  DeJong ran a PR over the 5k distance running a time of 16:52.  Spencer DeJong ran a fine time of 18:02 with Jared Boggess covering the distance in 19:20. As a team, the Indians scored 216 points to finish 8th in the 13 team field.   VanHouweling covered the 4k distance in a time of 16:04, with Lesley Roquet and Paige Walter running PRs of 17:36 and 17:49.  As a team, the Indians tallied 214 points to finish in 7th place in the 15 team field.  Sienna DeJong was the top girl in the middle school meet finishing in 2nd place with a time of 7:41 for the 1.25 mile course.  Brady DeJong topped the middle school boys with a 6th place finish in a time of 7:46.  Individual finishers for the Indians were as follows:

Oskaloosa Sweeps Rockets

Sklar DeJong and Brooke VanHouweling were individual race winners as Oskaloosa swept the first ever Highway 63 Showdown with Eddyville-Blakesburg.  VanHouweling led the Indians to a sweep of the top 5 spots, while Skylar and his brother Spencer swept the top 2 spots in the boys race.  The Indian boys outdistanced the rockets by a score of 22-33.  The Rocket girls did not have enough runners to have a team score.  Individual finishers for the Indians were as follows:
